According to Cal Fire, Oak Fire near Yosemite National Park has burn a total of 16,791 acres, over a 2 day period, causing damages to 5 buildings and destroying 10 buildings. The fire is spread throughout Mariposa County.
The good news is that the fire crews have been able to get the fire from 0% to 10% containment and no one or pets have died. Also, the Federal Emergency Agency (FEMA) is lending a helping hand by providing California with a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) that will go towards providing Cal Fire the resources needed in order to contain the Oak Fire.
On Saturday, July 23, 2022, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency. The fire began on Friday, July 22, 2022, and by Saturday it had spread to over 11,500 acres. Evacuation orders are in place for over 3,000 people living within the area.
Cal Fire did say that fire crews have been able to keep the fire within the three areas of Bear Clover Lane, Footman Ridge, and the Lushmeadows community.
By keeping the fire contained within those three areas, the fire crews have been able to keep the fire from advancing towards Mariposa Grove where the Giant Sequoia Trees are located.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
